Windows 8: The Minimum Specifications for the Tablet

Windows 8-The Minimum Specifications for the Tablet

Microsoft has released an updated version of the technical requirements for the tablet based on Windows 8 . Besides the features discussed Secure Boot, which can not be disabled on ARM devices, the “Certification Requirements” also includes minimum hardware specifications required to have an optimal user experience.

The main component of a tablet is obviously the touchscreen. Microsoft requires that the display supports at least five points of contact, or five fingers to make the gesture more common. The tablets that integrate a NFC chip on the frame should have a symbol that indicates the “point of contact.” In addition, there must be five physical buttons : Power, Lock Rotation, Windows Key, Volume up and Volume down. The famous combination CTRL + ALT + DEL is obtained by pressing Windows Key + Power.

Future tablet with Windows 8 should incorporate the following hardware: at least 10 GB of storage space, UEFI firmware, DirectX 10 compatible video card, display resolution of 1,366 × 768 pixels , camera with 720p resolution, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0, leads USB 2.0, speakers, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer.

Microsoft also requires the installation of graphics drivers to take place without restarting the operating system and Intel-based tablet that come out of standby in 2 seconds or less . The same indication is not present for the tablet ARM, probably because the company did not in-depth information on this architecture.
