10 Free video conferencing tools not just for small groups

It does not always have to be Skype or Google+ Hangouts. We’re introducing ten largely free video conferencing tools that provide some useful additional features.

More and more telephone conferences are noving video conferencing. The reason is that the customers and colleagues want to see who they are talking to. Or because you want to work together on a document in real time.

Whether you participate in a video conference call from a PC or a mobile device, there is a solution for every platform. We introduce ten important video chat and video conferencing systems. 

Amazon Chime

Amazon offers Amazon Chime video conferencing service via Amazon Web Services (AWS) . Fees only apply depending on usage, the service itself is available free of charge in the Basic version. For 30 days you can test all features in the Pro version for free. Only then will there be fees. You can then switch to the paid Pro version or continue to use the free Basic version. Chime is in direct competition with Skype for Business and Cisco Webex , The videoconferencing service can also be used on smartphones and tablets via apps.

Skype and Skype for Business

Skype offers group video calls for up to ten participants for free. Skype is easy to use, but typical business functions are largely missing. These are reserved for Skype for Business. Here companies can set up their own server or use the service through Office 365. The ability to call normal landline connections anywhere in the world for a low cost per minute is perhaps the most outstanding additional feature.

Gotomeeting by Citrix is available as a simple free trial solution that you can use for 14 days. Citrix sold the service to Logmein . Since then, the company has been responsible for the operation of the conference solution. Gotomeeting Starter allows you to video chat and share data with up to 10 participants at the same time.

The more extensive paid Pro version offers more options for conferencing solutions. It is a fully developed conference system that supports up to 250 people. Features include screen sharing, collaborative on-screen editing, text messaging, and the ability to join a phone. 

Webex video conferencing

Cisco Webex is a competitor product of Citrix Gotomeetings. The two applications are almost equivalent. Full-featured video conferencing features such as desktop sharing, whiteboarding, collaborative document management, and remote computer access to participants’ computers are available for meetings of up to 100 attendees. 

A simpler three-participant system is available free of charge. On the other hand, even the users of the free Webex receive 250 MB of online space for their documents. 

Google+ Hangouts

Google’s video chat system Hangouts combines instant messaging, live stream video, remote access, and more in a single, chrome-friendly package. Chat via video, sharing your screen, accessing other participants’ desktops, and importing data from your Google Drive shared-note and draft account are all features. 

You can even watch videos (via Youtube) as a group and leave your comments. For more than ten users, try out Hangouts on Air, a Hangouts live streaming partner. 

Users who have a G Suite account can also use Google Meet for video conferencing.

Tiny chat

Tiny Chat is an online video chat community where video chat rooms are created with two clicks and no registration is required. The Pro version removes the ad and offers a few more benefits. 

Vee Lake

With the free cloud service Vsee , users can create free video conferencing. The application can also share the screen content. In addition to Windows and macOS, there is also an app for iOS devices for the application. If you want to use the service professionally, you have to expect a free test with about 10 to 300 dollars per month. The application works with encryption and of course offers the possibility to exchange data. 

Own cloud

With Own Cloud , a private cloud environment can be built based on open source, with which connected users can easily save documents, photos, videos, but also appointments and contacts and share them with each other. In addition, the video conference Spreed is integrated in Own Cloud. As a result, an own video conferencing system can be set up with an open source solution. 

Remobo

Also Remobo is available for free. The tool allows users to establish data connections over the Internet. A data exchange is just as possible as the remote control of computers and video conferencing. Communicating is also possible via the encrypted line. 

Remobo is also available for macOS and Linux variants are also available. After the tool installation, the user should create a user account for Remobo. An assistant is available to help with the setup.
