Touch Screen that Appears a Physical Keyboard on Demand

Touch screenMany of the devices we use in our daily lives have touch screens that serve both to display information as input to our systems stimuli. Within touch screens, for about 5 years, capacitive screens are capturing the attention of manufacturers and users for their precision and, above all, its usability by allowing the use of several fingers at once ( multitouch ), banishing only a few devices including a keyboard. I must admit that for certain things (writing a long email), is missing a keyboard and yet for other tasks, the touchscreen is the best solution. With the idea of combining the best of the two paradigms, tactile keypad , a company is working on a new concept of hybrid screens also offer a tactile interface of the surface may appear keys if necessary .

Imagine that we have to write an email from our smartphone touch screen, this screen is developing hybrid Tactus Technology, you might see a series of buttons from the same area of the touch screen and keys offer traditional, if necessary , making mobile devices in devices more versatile thanks to these virtual keyboards .

Tactus offers a new dimension of physical buttons enabling touch screens that come from the touch pad on demand and then fold into the same screen resulting in a completely flat surface and transparent

The concept, in my view, is quite interesting and reminds me of some experimental system susing MEMS or microfluidics to develop dynamic systems of Braille reading , ie flat surfaces on the micro electromechanical devices that by highlighting some areas could be imitating Braille symbols and making the surface across any type of text dynamically. Indeed, the screen that is developing Tactus Technology also builds on the world of microsystems but instead of using micro electromechanical devices based on microfluidics .

Specifically, this screen builds on traditional touch screen, that is, we can see in many of the mobile market and this is deposited on a membrane which have been a number of channels and cavities . Through these channels is pumped a kind of oil or fluid used to channel and cause it to swell certain areas of the screen, which has the consequence that “grow” the keyboard on the touch screen.

This type of display “double touch” opens the door to many applications and, especially, could do much more affordable tablets and smartphones because, even, could provide information to the user using Braille.
