New Super-Computer “Monster” From Fujitsu introduced With more than double output than the Previous.
The construction of a new super-computer, PRIMEHPC FX10, which comes to upgrade impressively the potential of leading to now Japanese “monster,” the computer “K”, said the Japanese company Fujitsu. The “K” is the brainchild of same company and was classified powerful computers worldwide this June. The announcement marks the final displacement in 2011 of China and its own super-computer from the top of global rankings, which was found last year. While the “K” had reached this month the computational power of 10,51 petaflops (theoretically can reach up to 11,28 petaflops), o PRIMEHPC FX10 has more than doubled 23,2 petaflops power and memory 6 petabytes (petaflop each corresponding to 1,000 trillion calculations per second). The new “giant” will be fully ready by January 2012 and will be commercially available not only for the Japanese government, like the “K”, but to any research institution and a company within and outside Japan, which wants to large-scale calculations and simulations. The areas of medical and pharmaceutical research, energy, new materials, analysis of earthquakes and meteorology-climatology are classic examples. The Japanese company expects to sell five such machines over the next three years. The PRIMEHPC FX10, which uses OS «Linux on Sparc», based on the new low energy 16pyrino processor Sparc64-Ixfx with almost twice the power than the processor 8pyrino SparcC64 -VIIIfx using the “K”. Each processor Sparc64-Ixfx has separate power 236,5 gigaflops and consumes one watt every 2 gigaflops. The new achievement Fujitsu throws down the gauntlet to other international competitors who build super-computers. Three companies (IBM, Cray, Fujitsu) have set out to break the barrier of 20 petaflop, which succeeds the first Japanese company. But the world of computing “monsters” is like quicksand, and the prize of fastest and most powerful computer in the world leads many companies and research centers to compete increasingly hard to achieve. The Fujitsu, based in Tokyo, is a leading international company in the field of information technology and communications, employing about 170,000 workers in over 100 countries .
