Wandering the internet we stumbled upon a wonderful piece of history, in an article in the journal The Ladies’ Home Journal by John Elfreth Watkins, dating back to December 1900.
The really striking is that the article entitled “What May Happen in The Next Hundred Year” and as evidenced by the title, the writer cites over twenty predictions about what will happen in 2000!
The Watkins spoke with brilliant scientists of his time and asked everyone to make predictions for the coming century. So after working sat and carefully and incorporated therein.
“These prophecies seem strange, almost impossible,” he says, adding however that come from the lips of important and educated people of America.
It’s scary that it has achieved several of its provisions. See a few that came true and others are either not touched or passed scratch.
Predictions that came true
* The Americans will be taller. From 1.70 was the average American in 1911 and 2001 is 1.75.
* You will live more than 35, up to 50 (and some put).
* The cars will be cheaper than horses that we have today. And yet it is somehow appropriate since the 1900 horses were sold from 225 up to $ 250.Considering inflation, the price is formed at about $ 6,400 with which one can easily buy a car.
* There will be prepared dishes and refrigerators will keep food fresh for long.
* You can display photos directly and send them eg journalists on a newspaper within one hour. A and of course we have pictures in natural colors (Digital Photography if you say something).
* Some trains will arrive at high speeds, while there are commercial aircraft.
* Most drugs do not have to swallow.
* There will be tubes of compressed air which would directly goods in our homes (in the future perhaps, no one knows).
* You will no longer exist in the English alphabet letters C, X and Q.
* Wild animals will be available only in menageries, etc. (Where na’nai comes it, so as we go unfortunately).
* There will be weapons that could be aimed away and can destroy entire cities .. ie nuclear weapons ..
* We have wireless phones and communication while away and if someone is.
* The music will not only be “transferred” to our homes. You can visited the opera to be heard and to see him.
* You can have hot or cold air in our homes by special … cocks. And yes we have air condition, etc.
Predictions that not came true yet
* There will be no flies, mosquitoes and rats and will we exterminate. (we kill others, endangered species).
* We will have strawberries the size of apples and peas as beets, which are true but only in the mind of Woody Allen …
